I can't help but look at this film as the movie that was made by Jon Favreau instead of Iron Man 3, and on that criteria I'm left a little disappointed. It's probably not remotely as simple as that, and taken on its own, Cowboys & Aliens is okay... but it's nothing particular special and will likely be forgotten in a few months by anyone who watches it.
